Description

Afanat Tablet should be taken on an empty stomach, but try to have it at the same time every day to get the most benefits. Your doctor will decide what dose is necessary and how often you need to take it. This will depend on what you are being treated for and may change from time to time. You should take it exactly as your doctor has advised. Taking it in the wrong way or taking too much can cause very serious side effects. It may take several weeks or months for you to see or feel the benefits but do not stop taking it unless your doctor tells you to.

Feature:

  1. Targeted Therapy: Afatinib is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) that targets and blocks the activity of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2), proteins that are overexpressed in some cancer cells.
  2. Multiple Strengths: Available in 20mg, 30mg, and 40mg strengths to accommodate individual patient needs and treatment plans.
  3. Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC): Approved for the treatment of NSCLC with specific mutations in the EGFR gene, including exon 19 deletions or exon 21 (L858R) substitution mutations.
  4. Metastatic Breast Cancer: Used in combination with other medications for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer that overexpresses HER2 (HER2-positive).
  5. Oral Administration: Administered orally once daily, typically on an empty stomach, at least one hour before or two hours after a meal.
  6. Efficacy: Demonstrated efficacy in prolonging progression-free survival and overall survival in clinical trials for both NSCLC and metastatic breast cancer.
  7. Side Effects: Common side effects may include diarrhea, rash, mucositis (inflammation of the mouth and throat), and fatigue. Patients should be monitored closely for adverse reactions.
  8. Patient Education: Patients should be counseled on proper medication administration, potential side effects, and the importance of adherence to treatment.
  9. Consultation with Healthcare Provider: Treatment with Afatinib should be initiated and monitored by a qualified oncologist experienced in the management of cancer.
  10. Access and Affordability: Efforts should be made to ensure access to this medication for eligible patients, including exploring financial assistance programs and insurance coverage options.
